Last month, Homes for Hope was honored to be featured on 89.7 WAY-FM’s weekly Community Spotlight. Executive Director, Jack Nulty sat down with Bryan Johns of WAY-FM to talk about the history, impact, and vision of Homes for Hope and HOPE International.

American home builders are making a difference in southeast Africa.

What if over half the American population was earning less than a $1 per day? Well that’s Malawi, a country in southeast Africa where donations from Homes for HOPE are being used. Consider what it would be like to live in a place where all gasoline is imported, 7 out of 10 hospital beds are filled with HIV/Aids patients, and 6 out of 10 people live on less than a dollar per day. It’s horrific! But it’s not hopeless.

I recently read an article by Scott Sedam, CEO of TrueNorth Development titled Immigration Reform and Leadership Gap, and I applaud the horn that Scott Sedam is blowing on behalf of immigration reform and am thankful to call America home. Did you know that American homebuilders are making a huge impact in Zambia, Africa? Donations from Homes for Hope are helping HOPE International come alongside the church in Zambia to form SCA’s. In short SCA’s provide a way for people to gain access to large sums of money for emergencies or even starting a business.

Last week, I went with Betenbough Homes and a group of their trades and employees to see the work of Esperanza International, HOPE International’s partner in the Dominican Republic. We got the opportunity to meet several of Esperanza’s incredible clients in two Bateyes just north of La Ramona.
