Tess's Story

One Father’s Impact | Marc’s Story

Jun 4, 2026

HAITI – When Marc first joined Fraternite (“fellowship”) savings group through his local church in Les Cayes, Haiti in 2019, he expected it to help him grow his business. But when he joined at the encouragement of his wife, who was already a member, he quickly realized it was far more than a financial tool.

“I thought it was just a saving money thing,” Marc recalls. “But during the meetings, we praise, worship, and study the Word of God. During the lockdown, when churches were closed, the group became our way to stay connected in fellowship.”

A path toward stability and growth

When he joined the group, Marc was running several small ventures—including a car sales and shipping business—but he lacked the resources to expand. With a wife and young daughter to provide for, money was tight. The challenging political and economic instability in Haiti only made it more difficult to get ahead. Through the savings group, Marc began faithfully setting aside $7.70 (U.S.) each week. Before long, he began taking out small loans from the group to purchase the inventory he needed to finally expand, like food, drinks, clothing, shoes, and beauty products. With each investment, his business grew stronger. Today, he saves $38.50 (U.S.) each week.

“Some people told me I wouldn’t succeed,” he says. “But with the loans, I was able to grow significantly.”

Today, Marc employs seven people and comfortably provides for his family. They now own their home, his daughter attends school, and he and his wife are deeply involved in their church community.

Faith that sustains and strengthens

Marc was raised in a Christian home, but grew much closer to God after joining his savings group. The group’s spiritual rhythms, like praying, worshipping, and reading Scripture together, became a real source of encouragement for him. Today, he brings his whole family with him to group meetings so they can grow in their relationship with Christ, too.

“God is everywhere, even in small activities, if you invite Him,” Marc says. “And you will have great success when He is with you.”

A father investing in others

March’s neighbors know him now as a loving father and a man whose generosity reflects his faith. As his businesses expanded, so did his ability to serve. He now hires more employees and supports people in his community who are facing financial hardships.

Looking to the future, Marc dreams of seeing his savings group grow into a formal financial institution—one that could offer loans and opportunities to families across Haiti.
